CryoPen uses a fine jet of nitrous oxide to freeze away skin tags, warts, pigmentation, angiomas and other harmless blemishes, on the face and on the body. Most take a couple of minutes. Most only need doing once.

What CryoPen is
Powerful, precise cryosurgery. CryoPen is a cryosurgery pen made in Belgium — CE certified, FDA approved, and used by doctors, surgeons and skin clinics in more than sixty countries.
The pen releases a fine, high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide onto the blemish — and onto nothing else. The nitrous oxide freezes it: ice crystals form inside the cells, the cell walls rupture, and over the following days and weeks the treated tissue breaks down and sheds. The jet is accurate to about a millimetre and never touches the skin, so the healthy tissue around the blemish is left undamaged.
Because the cold numbs as it works, there's no injection and no anaesthetic to wait for. It's a fast, effective and safe way to remove benign lesions on the face and body — comfortable, quick, and with nothing to stop you doing afterwards.

Anything that is changing in size, shape or colour, bleeding or itching should be seen by your GP before we go anywhere near it. If we're not certain what something is, we'll say so and send you to a doctor rather than guess.
What happens on the day
We look at the blemish first and check it's something CryoPen can treat. That conversation is the important part — the rest is quick.
Most blemishes need between two and thirty seconds of freezing; a 2mm one takes about ten seconds. Deeper blemishes such as warts take a little longer, up to about forty-five seconds. You'll feel a cold sting, not unlike a nettle, and it settles within a minute or two.
There's nothing to prepare beforehand unless we're treating a wart, in which case we'll tell you what to do. Afterwards there's nothing you have to stop doing: shower, swim, wear makeup, go back to work.
Afterwards
The treated spot usually darkens, crusts over and falls away on its own. Small blemishes can be gone in a week or two. Deeper ones take up to six. A blister sometimes forms in the first few days — leave it be if you can, and keep it clean and covered if it bursts.
Most blemishes need one session and results often show after a single treatment. Either way we'll see you again two to three weeks later for a review, free of charge, to check the healing is progressing well and whether anything further is needed.
Cryotherapy scars less than cutting or burning, because it leaves the connective tissue underneath intact. What's more common is a temporary change in colour — the spot can look paler or darker than the skin around it for a few months while it evens out.

Frequently asked questions
- How much does it cost?
£80 for the first lesion, then £40 for each further lesion treated in the same session, up to six lesions at a time. Your review appointment two to three weeks later is free of charge.
- Does it hurt?
Not much, and not for long. The cold numbs as it works, so there's no injection. You'll feel a sharp, cold sting once the freeze reaches the base of the blemish — that's usually the moment we stop. A mild tingle can linger for a few minutes afterwards.
- How many sessions will I need?
Most blemishes need one, and results often show after a single treatment. Deeper ones, warts especially, sometimes need a second. We'll see you two to three weeks later for a free review and decide then.
- Is it permanent?
For most blemishes, yes — once the tissue is destroyed it doesn't come back. Some types are more stubborn than others, and nothing about the treatment stops a new blemish appearing somewhere else in future.
- Will it leave a scar?
Cryotherapy scars less than cutting or burning because it leaves the connective tissue underneath intact. A change in colour is more likely than a scar: the spot can look paler or darker than the skin around it for a few months. If you have a deeper skin tone, do tell us — pigment cells are the most sensitive to cold and lightening can occasionally be permanent, so we'll talk it through properly and test a small area first.
- Can it be used near my eyes?
Yes. The jet is accurate to about a millimetre and doesn't touch the skin, which is exactly why CryoPen is used on eyelids and other delicate areas where other methods aren't an option.
- Can children have it?
Yes, with a parent or guardian present and consenting. Molluscum contagiosum — water warts — is one of the most common reasons parents bring children in.
- Is there anyone who shouldn't have it?
Tell us first if you have reduced sensation or poor circulation in the area, a sensitivity to cold such as cold urticaria, a heart condition, an open wound at the site, or if you're being treated for any kind of skin cancer. We may ask you to check with your GP before we go ahead.
- What do I have to do afterwards?
Almost nothing. Wash, shower and swim as normal, and wear makeup if you want to. Just try not to knock or rub the area while it heals, and let any scab come away by itself. If a blister forms and bursts, keep it clean and covered.
