Let’s admit it, the last year and a bit has been TOUGH. Its affected every aspect of our lives including our mental health and wellbeing. We know ourselves that during the lockdowns, a little bit of self care and pampering kept us going, so why stop?

 

As it’s World Wellbeing Week now is the perfect time to stop and think about the ways in which you can help yourself. Here are some facts about stress and the impact that it has on your body that will hopefully give you the push to take a little time out!

Stress can come from different facets of our lives – work, family or health issues etc. Our bodies way of reacting to stress is the ‘fight or flight’ response. This hormonal kickback in our body can cause problems if our being is constantly put under this stress. Here are a few ways that stress can impact our body

Skin acne, eczema, hives

Head – mood, anger, irribility, anxiety, depression

Heart – blood pressure, high cholesterol, increased risk of stroke or heart attack

Stomach – IBS/IBD, allergies, nausea

Joints and Muscles – ache and pains, inflammation, tension

Immune System – inflammation, suppressed effectiveness of the immune system, lowered bone density.

Whilst there are certainly mainstream ways of dealing with extreme stress and depression etc. in the form of medication and talking therapy, complementary therapies are not yet part of mainstream medical care. Complimentary therapies can include aromatherapy, herbal remedies, acupuncture, meditation, yoga and massage. These treatments may help improve your emotional wellbeing and may help with side effects too! At Pampers we have many clients who use our treatments to cope and soothe different stresses. These treatments include aromatherapy massage, pedicures, Indian head massage, Hopi ear candles, facials, manicures and even simple treatments such as brow waxing, which can have such a positive effect on our clients wellbeing. 

 

Almost all of our treatments are also touch based, meaning that the therapist has to touch the skin to perform the treatment. Therapeutic touch activates your deep relaxation response and lets your nerves and tendons relax!

Whilst we all have busy lives full of working, family commitments and daily chores, taking a small amount of time to really focus on your own wellbeing can boost your mood and your body. Even the simple act of knowing that you have a treatment booked in can be beneficial, it’s something to look forward to and something to focus on! One of our favourite treatments at Pampers is our Head To Toe package which is a heavenly Indian head massage and foot massage with hot towels. A real treat! And as it’s around 45 minutes, it’s the perfect quick pick me up that will leave you feel rejuvenated and relaxed with just a little amount of time taken out of your day.
